Cartoons And Their Effects On Children (cause and effect essay)

Have you ever met any children who do not like cartoons? Or have you ever seen any children who refuse to watch cartoon? This situations are mostly impossible under normal circumstances. It’s obvious that today’s children are, mostly unconsciously, exposed to television which is one of the most fashionable inventions of the 20th century. In this composition, I will mention the basic reasons for children’s watching cartoons so much and the effects of these cartoons on them.

First of all, the basic reason for children’s watching cartoons is that cartoons respond to the children’s need and tendency to activeness. Mostly the children under the age of seven are so much interested in cartoons. They firstly watch cartoons and then imitate them, which is a crucial point to think on. For instance, there are of course some of us who have witnessed or heard about one or two children who cry in the street like these ‘I am the king of the forests, Tarzan.’, ‘By the power of the grayskull, I’ve power.’, or ‘ Atomic ant is cominggg:).’ All of these slogans are results of the cartoons they watch in tv. The children are prone to take cartoons as their models and to reflect the characters in their daily games.

Secondly, we cannot disregard the notion that the children under the age of seven, still think that whatever happens in cartoons are all real and they can do everything that the characters in cartoons do. For example, if we think about a five or six years old children, it’s probable that they can jump from the roofs to fly, climb on the walls like spiderman, talk to their toys or to feed them as if they are alive. This actually nonexistent reality in cartoons is what lead the children to all these dangerous deeds.

Thirdly, it’s crucial to signify that everything that children learn till they are nine or ten, will be base for their later lives. In this aspect, parents have to be careful about their children’s cartoons. They must not think that ‘cartoons are tv programmes that are prepared for children, so they can watch which cartoons they want.’ On the contrary, parents should choose the most beneficial cartoons that will not only entertain the children but also give appropriate messages to them. Otherwise, it’s most probable that some fantastic cartoons can give permanents harms to the mental health of the children. However, there are at the same time beneficial cartoons such as Heidi, Pollyanna, Pinocchio, Alice in Wanderland etc. All these cartoons are adaptations from children’s classics which aim to develop children mentally.

We have indicated that children tend to imitate whatever they see in cartoons. The reason for their imitation is that children are unable to see or realise the difference between fact and fantasy, right and wrong. As all of us can guess, this is a very risky situation not only for mental development of the children but also for their perceptions in all aspects. For instance, these imitator children most probably have difficulty in comprehending the subjects at school. As s/he is accustomed to believing in everything in fantastic cartoons, he is now a dreamer and unable to gain the discipline for studying.

To conclude, it’s extremely significant that parents should follow what kind of cartoons their children watch. They must be careful about choosing cartoons for their children. It’s a compulsory duty of parents to choose cartoons that are prepared by pedagogists and real cartoon producers, which is, I think, the safest way to protect the children from the possible harms of the cartoons.

HISTORY AND ITS HISTORY (2.draft/ classification essay)

Since we were born, we have always given the definition of history as such ‘History is a science which examines events in the past by indicating their place and time. However, we most of the time don’t know when the first definition of history was made, when did it start or does history have any divisions or is it only a whole called history? In my composition, I will try to explain the answers of these questions to you.

In the beginning, I must make it clear that history is not at all an undivided whole but a process which has some divisions determined by significant events. Firstly,  history is divided into two as Prehistoric Ages and Historical Ages. As history has begun with the discovery of writing, the period before writing is called Prehistoric Age. In prehistoric age people could not record the events of the time as they did not know how to write. This is the reason why we called this period as prehistoric.

We are unable to cope with history by only saying that it’s divided into two as prehistoric and historical ages. Prehistorical ages are again divided into two in themselves as The Stone Age and The Mine Age. For prehistoric age we can say that its sub-ages’ names are determined by the material used by people of that time. The Stone Age is called The ‘Stone’ Age because at that time people were only able to use Stones directly taking from the nature. They did not know how to produce combine something or to get benefit from the nature. Actually this kind of labelling  is valid for the mine age, too. In the Mine Age people learned to use some mines such as copper, bronze, iron. And so, the ages were named after the mines which people used in that age. For instance, The Mine Age is divided into three as The Copper Age, The Bronze Age, and The Iron Age. During these ages people got benefit from copper, bronze and iron in sequence.

As for Historical Ages, we can say that they are all four ages in number: The First Age, The Middle Age, The New Age, and The Modern Age. Let’s start with The First Age. The First Age began with the discovery of writing by Sumerians between the years 4000-3000 B.C. ıt continued till the emigration of the ethnic groups in 375 A.D.  First Age is chiefly known for its dividing the public into social classes as middle class, lower class, or bourgeois etc.

The Middle Age began with the emigration in 375 B.C and continues to the conquest of Istanbul in 1453 A.D.  We can say feudalism in Europe emerged  in this period as one of the most significant events of the century. Also, in the West scholastic thinking emerged, which was the beginning of hard days for the people in terms of religion, liberal education.

And The New Age began with the conquest of Istanbul by Fatih the Conqueror in 1453. This age continued till The French Revolution occured in 1789. Feudalism, which came into being in the Middle Age, came to an end in this age. Instead, central kingdoms gained power in Europe. And geogpaohical discoveries started along with Renaissance and Reform movements in this age.

Lastly, to talk about the Modern Age, it starts with the French Revolution and con tinues up to the present. In this period the most significant events were The World War I – II. Some powerful empires were founded with the aim of colonizing the powerless ones. Also nationalism gained power during the Modern Age. As you see when historical eras are divided into ages, events which are of universal importance are taken into consideration as all these events affected societies economically, socially, and also culturally.

Which One Do You Prefer, Television or Book? (2. draft/ compare and contrast essay)

Television is undoubtedly one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. It has both many advantages and desadvantages when compared to reading a book. I do not know how many hours you watch tv in a day but its damage depends upon the time you spend in front of it.

In our society, reading a book is by most of the people regarded as wasting time. People would prefer to do everything rather than reading a book or something like periodical. And their preference is as you can guess on the side of watching tv. However as these people do not know the serious desadvantages of tv, they go on watching it for hours and hours. So, in this paper, I will mention the pros of reading a book and some of  the unnumerable cons of watching tv.

First of all, tv makes people home keepers by making them anti-social creatures. These people graduallytend not to spend enough time with their children, friends, or relatives. And this in turn causes, especially in children, problems that stem from deficiency in love, interest shown towards them. These home keepers in time get very lazy and even their visions or perspectives about the world may change. They initially start to see everything unnecessary. Sometimes, they have great difficulty in realizingtheir duties such as studying lesson or working. Because these people in time get accustomed to sitting and lying down mostly. Even you can come across some people who think to become rich easily without working. Because the tv teaches this to them. Tv vaccinates this dangerous mentality, unfortunately.

As for reding a book, it provides one with so many advantages that one cannot even guess. First of all, it informs one on a subject in detail, which automatically increases your self-confidance. Because if one reads a newspaper or a book on a subject, s/he feels sufficient to talk about that subject. This, at the same time, improves the person’s thinking ability, offers him a wider perspective and an ability to examine events better.

In addition, the persons who read much have a rich vocabulary store which brings an ability to talk effectively. Reading a book improves people’s relations with each other contrary to negative effects of watching tv.

The more a person reads, the more he learns. The person who learns more increases his cultural level and the capacity to think fast with more than one concept. Instead of watching tv in spare time, people must deliberately read books for a beter future for themselves. And in time, these people will of course have an efficient personality in their society, which will prepare a beter future for their children and country, too.

My Hometown Amasya (2. draft/ definition essay)

Amasya, set up on the foots of Harsena Mountain, is a small city which belongs to the Middle Black Sea Region. It’s a city of more than a seven thousand-year history throughout which it became capital for various kingdoms. Amasya is a significant city where scientists, artists, poets and many shahzadas were brought up. In the middle of the city, Yeşilırmak River flows.

Amasya is really a small city but contrary to its smallness, it has so many historical places and natural beauties to see. I can easily say that only by looking at your environment randomly, you can most probably come across a historical building, tower, cave, mosque, medresseh etc. Apart from being famous for its apples, cherries, peaches, and okra, Amasya easily attracts visitors’ attention to its historical houses built along Yeşilırmak. For instance, one of these historical houses is Mansion of Hazeranlar. It’s one of the most representative of the architecture of Ottoman reign. This excellent mansion was built in 1872 in the name of Miss Hazeran, the sister of Sir Hasan Talat, who was an official heading the provincial treasury of Ottomans at that time.Today, as you can guess, this mansion has been turned into a museum which is visited by many tourists every summer.

Surronded by rocky mountains, Amasya is well known for its King Stone Tombs. These tombs are all five in number and they are said to be carved by ancient people on the mountains. As they are very attractive and huge on the surface of the mountains, they immediately call your attention much more easily than any other beauties or historical buildings. In the city centre, you can see four of these tombs. However, the fifth tomb, the most completed and ornamented one, is on the road to Ziyaret Village. On the walls of this fifth tomb, you can surprisingly see the figures of Jesus the Christ and Virgin Mary.

When you visit Amasya, one of the places that you have exactly to see is the complex buildings adjacent to Sultan Bayezid Mosque. It was built in 1485 in the name of Sultan Bayezid. This complex of buildings consists of a mosque, medresseh, turbe, and fontain. It has been built in a L-shaped plan. So it’s said that it’s one of the most impressive examples of mosque architecture of the Ottomans. Amasya is such a magnificient city that you can see both the King Stone Tombs and the complex buildings adjacent to Sultan Bayezid Mosque at the same time. If you stand on the road in the street, your face turned to Amasya Clock Tower, the King Stone Tombs will be on your left and Sultan Bayezid Mosque will be on your right. And of course, Yeşilırmak River flaws sliently in its splendour next to the road you stand on.

In Amasya there are exactly many historical places other than these I have mentioned. As examples I can say Ferhat’s water canal, which he has dug for Şirin, Medresseh of great Agha, Mosque of Minaret with Spiral, Amasya Tower, Amasya Clock Tower, Amasya Museum etc.. As you see this small city is interconnected with its big history. I think if anybody has a chance to travel to the Middle Black Sea Region, s/he deliberately has to visit my hometown so that his/her eyes can witness what a living history isJ.

Computer? Which kind of it do you mean?

Computers may become very small or to the contrary, very big. There are really big computers, called super-computer, which includes thousands of central processing units (CPU), connected to each other and making extremely complicated calculations. Some other kinds of computers are placed in  cars, televisions, stereo systems, and also calculators.

Design of each computers is created to perform some duties and functions. We know that desktops or personal computers are created to be used only by one person at the same time. In this article we will categorize computers as : desktop, laptop, palm top and tablet.

Desktops, as it’s name suggests, are designed to be used on the table. Desktops are generally faster and bigger than the other types of computer. Desktops consist of different compounds. First and most important one of tese compounds is system unit. System unit is the central or most basic compound of your computer. It has a rectangle shape and can stand either on or under the table. As other compounds, we can say keyboard, mouse, loudspeaker, and monitor.

Laptops are generally a bit light, movable personal computers with LCD monitor. We  sometimes call them as notebooks as they can be used as pen and notebook. Laptops can work with batteries. You do not need to have its cables as long as you have charged it. So this means you can take them with you wherever you go. Contrary to desktops, laptops consist of only one item. You  can resemble laptops to books. They are opened and closed like books.

Palm tops are the third type of the computers. Palm tops are also called as Personal Digital Asistant (PDA). They work with their batteries. They are unfortunately not as fast as laptops or desktops. You can use them to keep your appointments, addresses, or telephone numbers. They are the most popular type of the others in terms of playing gamesJ.

Some types of palm tops are much more developed than the others. There are some palm tops that can call a person or have internet connection. If you have a palm top (or PDA) you will most probably have a special screen  that is sensitive to your fingers’ touches.

As for tablet computers we can say that they are the most practicle ones. They combine the qualities of laptops and palm tops. They are movable, too. Tablet computers are as fast as laptops. Their difference from laptops is their tablet-like screens. With their special pencils, they enable you to take notes and draw anything on the screen easily. What is the most important is that tablet computers can change your handwriting into the that of typewriter. Some of the tablet computers have screens that can be turned to the opposite direction.

Until new and more developed types are produced we will make our lives easy with these technology stars. Yes, computers must be the stars of the technology as they are so beneficial, necessary and inseparable parts of our lives.
